- DarenDino Productions are currently casting for a short set in a 1930s nightclub (Brighton Ballroom) at the end of May 2011. We are looking for 1930s socialites, Vaudeville Acts, Extras who have 1930s era evening attire gents/women welcome. DarenDino are also looking for certain key characters.

4. WORKSHOPS:

Two BFC workshops are running now:

Reading Aloud from a Script
Philippa Hammond, an actor and a trainer specialising in public speaking skills, is offering two ninety-minute workshops for actors, filmmakers and business people who will be reading from a script for audition, performance or public speech-making. The aims of the workshops are to provide participants with a set of foundation skills to improve their sight-reading skills in audition, performance and business situations. It includes dealing with nerves, marking up a script to help you work, making the most of your voice, facial expressions and non-verbal communication to grab and keep audience attention. The workshops will take place in the Studios on Farm Road, Hove and are payable on a donations basis.
Part 1: Preparing yourself and the text: Wed, 16th March at 7.30pm
Part 2: Using the skills in performance: Wed, 23rd March at 7.30pm

Advanced Screenwriting
Gary Mepsted is facilitating his workshop on scriptwriting, every Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Conference Room at the Old College House, 8-10 Richmond Terrace, Brighton. Payable on a donations basis.

The Craft of Acting
Elena Saorin is taking a break and will be back with her workshop in a couple of weeks. As all workshops these will be payable on a donations basis. You can join the Facebook group to receive updates.

5. FESTIVALS, COMPETITIONS AND SCREENINGS:

- The 2011 Oskar Bright Film Festival is looking for film submissions in time for the deadline on 30th April. The film festival is created and developed by the Brighton-based partner organisations Carousel and Junk TV. It's the world’s first film festival run by, and for, people with a learning disability. The films are screened in Brighton and abroad

- There are plenty of film societies around Britain. If you want to get your films some more exposure, why not try approaching the societies and ask whether they would screen your films? There are 17 registered film societies in Sussex and many more all over Britain. Here is a link to the directory

- Carmen Slijpen attended our meeting and introduced the work she does with the Lewes Junior Film Club. She runs a regular series of activities and screenings aimed at 7-12 year-old children and their families. The next film to be screened is 'Lepel' on Sun, 27th March at 10am in the All Saints Centre in Lewes. More details to follow about school holiday workshops.

- Adam Whitehall told us he is about to launch the West Hill Kino Club for which he will be organising regular screenings in the West Hill Community Centre in Seven Dials, Brighton. Here is some info about the two upcoming screenings

- Brighton Festival is giving you the chance to help shape an event in the May Festival! Their People’s Choice Debate will be on a subject chosen by you. They already had some great suggestions through from whether modern life is really fulfilling our nation to the issues of behaviour modification therapies. They’ll create a poll for you to choose your favourite in April! You can still email them more suggestions.

- If anyone would like to write blogs or small articles on relevant filmmaking topics then please get in touch. We would love to start getting members more involved with generating online content when the new website is up and running. New articles and blogs will be linked here.

- We have been approached by Spindle Magazine which is a quarterly, free arts magazine based in Brighton. They cover art, music, fashion, photography and film and in each issue they include a section on the 'Ones To Watch'. For their May issue they are considering to feature some talented filmmakers from The Filmmakers Coalition. Please submit your details for us to compile and pass on to Spindle Magazine for selection. We would also like to use the details we receive to improve the BFC online content by placing links to your artwork on our blog. In exchange we ask you to put a link to www.filmcoalition.co.uk on your website or blog and challenge videos. All in the usual spirit of mutual promotion you see.
